gdm never starts after upgrade of xserver-xorg-core

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

It happens on both my desktop and my laptop.
Both have nVidia video card
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
did not fix the problem
