Bug Description

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. Lucid beta currently installed and at least once every few minutes the screen flickers, like a quick. Sometimes there's even scratch looking colored lines go across the screen for a few seconds.

Can you please run apport-collect 555503 to attach your logs to this bug? Also, can you try booting with i915.powersave=0 added to grub to see if it fixes your problem?

I tried that i915.powersave=0 in the grub menu and got a kernel panic. it said something about not syncing with vfs

Oops I think I entered it in wrong at the end of the text. At first I didn't leave a space between the end of the last word and the start of i915.powersave=0 and I tried it with a space between the last word and the code I put in and it booted up fine. Now I'm waiting a few minutes to see if it still blinks and will report the results ASAP thanks :)

Further debugging on IRC shows that i915.powersave=0 does fix this, the reporter was just incorrectly adding the kernel option.

When I first added i915.powersave=0 to grub I did it incorrectly and today fixed what I did wrong and did it correctly and now I it seems the bug is gone :) Please somebody let me know what else I can do to have this confirmed bug fix get to those that can do something about it and please tell me how I can make this fix a permanent one.
