On Xorg gui logon, when type password first time, X server resets once.

Sequence:
- boot to gui logon screen
- click on my usernbame, and start typing the password
- after about the 5th character, the xserver resetes, GUI goes way, comes back and presents the login screen again.
- 2nd attempt to enter password works just fine.

Notes:
- I use an nvidia driver, but also noticed the same behavior with the opensource driver: an Xorg issue?
- It happens every time after a reboot.
- Even if I wait a minute before type the password, it makes no difference: not a timing issue

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 beta, updated today. But notice this for several weeks.

I have exactly the same problem. I activated auto-login with GDM and first time I'm prompted for a password, I type it in the dialog box, press Enter and the session is closing and I'm at GDM login. If I validate my password clicking on the "Validate" button, all is fine and the session is not closed.

I'm also using nvidia proprietary driver under up-to-date Lucid Lynx.
