I tried to revert these packages but I'm not so advanced to handle with some dependencies and kernel revert.

Following advice from a friend I started removing dirs from /home.
Removing BOTH /.local and /.mozilla solved this ( I hope so ).
Don't know anymore if this is related to this updates.

omg -- yes! This is affecting me too! You are much better at sifting through the logs to find the cause. Its gotten to the point where I cannot trust my ubuntu system to do work -- which is embarrassing because I am the poster child for ubuntu @ IBM in Australia.

Please, please fix this!

I also had similar problems.

Once I was unable to login to my profile at all. After going through the login screen my X stuck with just a background and mouse. Had to delete .gconf to have it fixed (after some Google-ing with the errors I got in the logs).

Later Ubuntu started crashing when I use Firefox and I had to delete .mozilla to have it fixed.

This is rather frustrating, when you want to rely on your system for work.

Experiencing this makes my job really hard.
At least someone give a comment what to do/check/update/revert or whatever..
Let say at first:
"Saw signal 7. Server aborting" - what is signal 7 and what is the difference with common problem - signal 11?

Come on people - don't force me to switch to other OS!

I just noticed that this bug is only present on my pcs that have the xorg-edgers ppa enabled. I installed the package "ppa-purge", run the commnad "sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers", then disabled the xorg-edgers ppa and restarted and I havent run into this problem again.

I also had this ppa enabled. After following Killeroid's suggestion to remove it, my system seems stable again. Thanks Killeroid! You've made me productive again. And this reinforces the wise warnings about using ppa's that are not part of the official ubuntu build.

Just made fresh install - everything was ok.
Then this bug appeared:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/456279 - suggestion was to enable xorg-edgers ppa .. and here I am again.
I should remember not to buy pc with intel graphics again ;)

Joke is a joke ... but reverting drivers is not complete solution - I cannot afford dropping mono applications , also cannot work with constant crashes.

Upgrading to kernel 2.6.32.2 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.2/ seems to fix it as well so for those of us who want to keep using the xorg-edgers ppa this may be the route to stability.

Hi Bryce,

Unfortunately this is my workstation and I can not test on it.
I just locked drivers on xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.1 version and I'm not planning to upgrade to lucid.

I'll mark this bug as duplicated to 462349 and 458545 which have status "fix released".
Don't know if this is the appropriate action because I don't plan to test this fix, but I'll mark it as "fix relased"
