Hi msub,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I'd be happy to, if you would care to explain how that is even remotely relevant to the issue I reported. Canned responses gone awry?

I can instead provide this, which essentially expresses the same thing:

lister:~> find /usr/share/man -type f -print0 | xargs -0 zgrep '\\fIX\\fP(7)'
/usr/share/man/de/man1/xine.1.gz:Position und Gre des Video\-Fensters als X-Geometrie angeben (siehe \fIX\fP(7)). Position \fBX\fP und \fBY\fP sind optional.
/usr/share/man/man1/Xserver.1.gz:NAMES section of the \fIX\fP(7) manual page to learn how to
/usr/share/man/man1/Xserver.1.gz:NAMES section of the \fIX\fP(7) manual page to learn how to
/usr/share/man/man1/Xserver.1.gz:General information: \fIX\fP(7)
lister:~> ls /usr/share/man/man7/X*
ls: No match.

I had the same problem, but on Intrepid. In my case, I was looking for documentation of the "--geometry" option. Since several manpages (i.e. gnome-terminal, emacs) refer to "man X" in this context, I think it's important to make sure that is installed by default.

Timo Aaltonen's fix worked.
