Bug Description

Actually this is not the version that freezes the boot. With a clean install both of groovy and focal I can use the computer with no problem. The bug appears after installing the prompted updates at first login.

I have three different outcomes when it comes to booting:
- Blinking underscore cursor (with no error messages on the screen)
- iwlwifi unhandled algorithm 0x707 error
- FAULT found at 00000000 [IBUS] not exactly this message

I guess I could install updates one by one and see which one faults at boot, then boot through tty4 (it is the only way I've found to do it after boot fails, or freezes) and then link the logs to this issue.

I could really use some guidance from a more experienced user because I don't really know how to debug this things :D

Thanks for the bug report. We will need to see a screenshot or original log of the problem while it is happening. Not just a vague recollection that there was a problem.

Thanks for your reply Daniel. What logs would you be referring to? I'll get them gladly :D

This is the journal, would it be useful? After the last update I'm getting the failed boot with blinking cursor. I managed to open tty4, login and run `startx` which I noticed is different from the gui I have been using.

I see the fault you mentioned:

abr 09 08:26:14 ppicom-Inspiron-7400 kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: bus: MMIO read of 00000000 FAULT at 6013d4 [ IBUS ]

That could certainly cause freezes because the open source 'nouveau' driver is often unstable. To avoid that, please open the 'Additional Drivers' app and install the recommended NVIDIA driver.

If the instructions in comment #5 don't fix the problem then please:

1. Reproduce the freeze again.

2. Wait at least 10 seconds.

3. Reboot.

4. Run this command:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

5. Attach the resulting text file here.

I have shutdown, then started with the power button. I've gotten to the blinking underscore cursor and waited 10 seconds. Opened tty4 and executed sudo reboot. Then I got to the blinking cursor again, openned tty4 again and run journalctl -b -1 > prevboot.txt, and the startx
