Bug Description

XrandR does not propose 3440x1440 21:9 resolution on Ubuntu 20.04 :

How to reproduce :

- Connect on HDMI 1.4 Intel HD 630 mobile a UWUHD 3440x1440 monitor

- Only 16:9 are proposed by xrandR

- XrandR should propose all supported resolutions

WorkAround : manually add the mode

xrandr --newmode "3440x1440_30.00" 196.90 3440 3600 3960 4480 1440 1441 1444 1465 -HSync +Vsync
xrandr --addmode HDMI-2 3440x1440_30.00
xrandr --output HDMI-2 --mode 3440x1440_30.00

I once had trouble getting full native resolution on an external 2560x1080 monitor. It turned out to be a problem with the DisplayPort -> HDMI monitor cable I had (not enough bandwidth without using a custom reduced frequency mode via xrandr/way harded custom EDID hacks for wayland), and switching to a better cable (DP -> DP, rated for 4K video) allowed me full use of the monitor.

Have you ruled out hardware/cable problems by, e.g. booting to a different OS, or trying a different cable?

I suspect not many people will have a "3440x1440 21:9" monitor to test with.

Please give a little help here , all my clients have this bug, and no one at canonical can help to confirm it ? That is not serious ?

We just need one person experiencing the bug to open a bug with the relevant system details automatically attached. That should be done by running:

  ubuntu-bug xorg

or if you really want to reuse this bug then:

  apport-collect 1895301

Sorry, it seems no one at Canonical is affected.
