Bug Description

Hello,

With the latest version of xserver-xorg-core (2:1.17.1-0ubuntu4), I'm no longer able to start X11.

Here is what I found in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

[ 105.698] (II) LoadModule: "intel"
[ 105.698] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so
[ 105.698] (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so: undefined symbol: xorgMir
[ 105.698] (II) UnloadModule: "intel"
[ 105.698] (II) Unloading intel
[ 105.698] (EE) Failed to load module "intel" (loader failed, 7)

Reinstalling xserver-xorg-core, xserver-common and xserver-xephyr (version 1.17.1-0ubuntu3) temporary fixes this problem.

I'm in exactly the same situation.

I'm back to vesa driver, instead of intel, it's slow.

I've put together a walk-through in case anyone is struggling with this. I have enabled root logins on my computer but realise that this isn't there by default. I have therefore put together something that should work on a standard setup without leaving a mess behind :-)

From a console (ctrl-alt-F1) login and:

sudo wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/200623723/xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_i386.deb
sudo rm xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_i386.deb
sudo init 6
