Bug Description

Hotplugged monitors are not detected under XMir until you log out/in again.

Interestingly, unity-system-compositor remains unchanged and stable across logins. This indicates the Mir server knows about the hotplugging, but the client (XMir) just isn't getting the information until it restarts.

This might be related to bug 1216245, but it's unclear right now.

Yep, it's randomly started happening again. /sys/class/drm/*/status shows connected by Mir/XMir is not immediately aware. And xrandr isn't showing it.

What's the output of "udevadm monitor --property" while plugging the monitor in and out?

Also, do you get similar behavior with Mir only (try mir_demo_client_display_config which prints configuration change event)?

XMir 1.0 (the old Xorg extension) is now deprecated and is not being maintained or fixed. It is replaced by the new 'Xmir' binary (package 'xmir') introduced in Ubuntu 15.10 wily.
