Bug Description

XMir defaults to wrong resolution 1152x864 instead of 1920x1200. This is visible right from the lightdm login screen.

The wrong resolution is on a DisplayPort/DVI connection. Perhaps it was chosen to try and match the laptop's LVDS 1366x768 ??

In this log file you can see the wrong resolution being used by default. Then I try to change it manually, and crash (bug 1216222)

Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) wrote :

Interestingly, if I run a native Mir client, the server correctly switches to the native resolution 1920x1200. So the wrong resolution is bound only to the X Mir client.

Changed in mir:
status: New → Invalid

This would match the behaviour of regular X, if the Intel driver didn't replace X's default monitor layout algorithm with one of its own.

It would be nice to do the same, and take the initial configuration from Mir, but that's not what happens on !Intel right now.

status: New → Confirmed

Same here, my internal monitor is 1280x800 and my external DVI is 1280x1024. I got the correct default resolution on the internal one, but the external used 1152x864:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 320, current 1280 x 864, maximum 32767 x 32767
XMIR-0 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 260mm x 160mm
   1280x800 59.8*+
XMIR-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
XMIR-2 connected 1152x864+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 380mm x 300mm
   1280x1024 59.9 +
   1280x960 59.9
   1152x864 60.0*
   1024x768 59.9
   832x624 59.8
   800x600 59.9
   640x480 59.4
   720x400 59.6

I can configure correct resolution in control-center, though.

Could be. I'm back to using the intel driver, and it correctly defaults to 1280x1024 for my external DVI. With XMir's default I cannot even see the right-hand screen edge: most indicators are off screen, and I only see half of the notification bubbles.

Actually this bug seems to be part of the basic XMir startup. Even if I run a bare XMir server:
    sudo X -mir foo -mirSocket /tmp/mir_socket :2
with no X clients at all, XMir still decides to change the monitor resolution. It was right before XMir started...

no longer affects: mir

Can anyone confirm?

FTR, I can't this and next week as I'm on conferences. Can confirm on
September 23, I hope someone else can do it earlier.

I still have a similar issue. Also multimonitor but using HDMI.

XMir 1.0 (the old Xorg extension) is now deprecated and is not being maintained or fixed. It is replaced by the new 'Xmir' binary (package 'xmir') introduced in Ubuntu 15.10 wily.

Changed in xorg-server (Ubuntu):
