Bug Description

1) lsb_release -rd gives Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (I actually use Kubuntu)
2) The version of the package you are using: X.Org X Server 1.11.3 Release Date: 2011-12-16
3) What you expected to happen: No crashes, just it.
4) What happened instead: xorg crashed, I tried to write a report below

Xorg crashes randomly. It can happen at any time, it's unpredictable (it can crash just in a few minutes after login; in the middle of the session; or don't crash for some days).

I sought in /var/log for more information. syslog gave only this:
Aug 22 17:42:07 x86 kdm[1153]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly

I found more in /var/kdm.log :
Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x37) [0xb7749627]
1: /usr/bin/X (0xb75c1000+0x18c3aa) [0xb774d3aa]
2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0xb759e40c]
3: /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so (0xb19e0000+0xae36c5) [0xb24c36c5]
Segmentation fault at address (nil)
Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

Please notify me if there's any more information you need about this issue, I'm new to committing bugs.

Attaching logfile to this message, this is /var/log/kdm.log. After today's X.org crash I found there more information (backtrace) that might be useful.

After the latest KDE's update to 4.8.5 the crashes happen more rarely.
And, while the crash logs are stored in /var/log/kdm.log I'm quite unsure if this is a X.org bug or a KDM bug.

Replaced KDM with LightDM to determine whether these crashes are X fault or KDM. Seems it X, because today I've encountered a crash again. But this time I haven't found anything in logs (grepped it for "segmentation" "fault" "closed" "unxpectedly" — nothing).

Menno van Alz, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
