Binary package hint: xmltv
Hello,
I'd like to request an exception for the upstream version freeze for XMLTV 0.5.49.
My reasons:
* XMLTV users in North America used to get EPG data from labs.zap2it.com. Nowadays, this is not possible anymore - labs.zap2it.com shut down their free service and www.schedulesdirect.org is used instead. If Ubuntu Gusy does not ship at least XMLTV 0.5.48, it'll be unreasonably hard for North American XMLTV users to obtain EPG data using the XMLTV suite.
* Many XMLTV grabbers resort to screen-scraping in order to obtain EPG data. That's a very fragile method; those grabbers break often if the source website changes. (IMHO, that's why the latest version of XMLTV should always be available in the repos, but that's a different issue). I'll highlight some interesting changelog entries:
o 2007-09-23 21:06 cpicton: Update tv_grab_za to work with new site format
o 2007-09-12 22:54 attila_nagy: Filtering out advertisement
o 2007-09-04 09:42 gawen: grab/pt/tv_grab_pt: site layout has changed... again
o 2007-08-30 07:49 christianw: grab/no_gfeed/tv_grab_no_gfeed.PL: Changed the url to a new host.
* Also, some grabbers were removed because they were not working anymore (blocked by data source or removed for legal reasons), eg tv_grab_de and tv_grab_de_tvtoday (Changelog says: "remove de_tvtoday and _de due to strict German copyright laws") as well as tv_grab_ch_bluewin ("ident blocked"). That's not a regression compared to 0.5.45; tv_grab_de hasn't been working in a *long* time, tv_grab_de_tvtoday was broken (IIRC) and tv_grab_ch_bluewin as blocked by the data source.
* Look at the changelog yourself, there are *lots* of bug fixes.
