Note that I've checked that xfd is not failing because of the 0 sized font specification: $ xfd -fn -unknown-freemono-bold-o-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-iso8859-1 has no problem. xlsfonts reports scalable fonts which don't seem to exist.
