Can't use AltGr on a French MacBook

I have a French MacBook (2.1) keyboard and so I do not have the AltGr key.
So I can't type characters like { or |.
I think the best way would be to use the apple key for that.

PS : I am using Xubuntu 11.04.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and making Ubuntu better.
Perhaps your suggestion would be a good idea, although the apple keys have their own use in Ubuntu as "super" modifiers.

Could you attach a picture of your keyboard, so the developers will know what they're dealing with?

The "@" is on the "G" key. Under OSX, we print it using ALT+g.

a workaround for me is to remap the Right Command key (apple key) to act as AltGr

for xmodmap :
clear Mod4
keycode 134 = ISO_Level3_Shift
add Mod4 = Super_L

So tu right command key still act as a Super key, and the right one as a AltGr.

Another possible key to be remaped as AltGr is the one between le right command and home key in the picture.
This key is totally useless, it's just a second ENTER key.

This was filed against the wrong driver package. -keyboard is no longer maintained; keyboards are managed via the -evdev driver now. However the key layout mapping stuff is handled by xkb-data (aka xkeyboard-config)

This bug hit's me too with my old powerbook G4 17" with finnish keyboard. The keyboard is the weird one that mac's ship with. Even I used xmodmap to make the extra enter key on the right side of the space and right apple key to be altgr, I only manage get some symbols correct. Now I do get @ sign using altgr (enter) and number 2. But still most special characters don't work.

I have selected Finnish (Machintosh) as my keyboard layout, and I use up to date to be 12.04 ppc ubuntu.

correction to the previous comment, I seem to get symbols correct afteral, the confusing factor was that the "<>" key between left shift and space had changed place with the left-top key "§°". Knowing that I get all symbols I need. Dead keys just don't work as expected, e.g. the tilde comes right after clicking the "altgr" and "¨" -keys, where as space should be still pressed until it should appear.

Should I make a separate bug report about Finnish keyboard?
