Bug Description

Reporter requires a keyboard layout with extra characters similar to the Mac OS X keyboard layout which uses the option key heavily to allow for better typography. The Mac layout contains a proper ellipsis character (option+semicolon), single and double, left and right (duh!) curly quotes, mapped to option+[, option+shift+[, option+], and option+shift+]. It also contains summation, copyright, several diphthongs, infinity, international currency, paragraph, and degree symbols, for example.

Further information:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=418941

TEST CASE: Set your keyboard layout to the Mac one and try the above combinations.

A fix, provided by Daniel Gimpelevich, is available upstream. The attached debdiff applies the fix for the Ubuntu package as well.

The upstream patch I made applies cleanly to Hardy, also. Please add it there, too, for hardy-updates.

Артём: thanks for the debdiff (pushed to intrepid, should be in alpha 2); are you interested to care for the hardy SRU? Could you please attach a debdiff for this SRU?

Of course, here's a debdiff for the Hardy package.

Reuploading debdiff, as the former had an invalid distro in the changelog.

I've pushed the proposed debdiff but targetted at hardy-proposed, not hardy. NB: I didn't change the version as it was free.

Works for me, but that hardly counts.

It does! Thanks for your feedback. Now I'm waiting for some other
testers which check this package on a mor 'regular' PC keyboard to see
whether anything changed for them.

Yeah, I guess the HP laptop I'm using it on isn't 'regular' enough…

Tested by Артём and Daniel, and since it only affects the mac layout, this isn't very intrusive, so I consider this tested. We did not get any other negative feedback about it.
