Bug Description

Binary package hint: xinput

I seem to be unable to slow the mouse 'speed' to a level that feels comfortable in the recent releases. In past releases of Kubuntu, I was able to remove variability of pointer movement speed depending on distance mouse distance travelled by setting threshold to zero, then adjust the speed using 'accelNum' and 'accelDenom'. This no longer seems possible, because setting the 'accel' fraction lower than 1.0 seems to have the same effect as setting it to 1.0.

Using the set-ptr-feedback to set the following:
        accelNum is 5
        accelDenom is 10
        threshold is 0

results in the same movement speed as setting it to:
        accelNum is 10
        accelDenom is 10
        threshold is 0

I understand this may be an unusual way to change mouse speed, as it's always in the 'accelerated' state, but I am not aware of a way to change the base mouse speed and turn off acceleration completely. This also seems to he the only way to set the mouse speed with no acceleration in the "Mouse - System Settings" GUI menu.

The mouse is identified as:
"Logitech USB Gaming Mouse" id=8 [XExtensionPointer]
by xinput.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

Hi, Yesterday I bought Dell computer: Dell Inspiron 15 (C15P32_225LCO), AMD Athlon II Dual-Core Mobile P340 (2.2 GHz), Mem 2GB DDR3, 250GB HD. video ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250. You can see pictures and specifications here http://www.pcenlinea.com/mp/72837.html.

I installed Kubuntu 10.04 LTS and I have the same issue about the slow mouse, I have tried using 2 differents USB mouse, and I changed mouse properties in system settings, but nothing seems to change. I tried with Kubuntu 10.04 LTS 64 bits and 32 bits, even I tried with Ubuntu 11.04 64 bits and I have the same problem.

With windows and Mandriva Linux I don't have this problem, they recognize the usb mouse, Do you have any clue? if you want more information plz let me know and I will send to you.

Sorry I forgot to mention that my mouse is very slow,....So I don't want to make it slow, I want to accelerate it. Thanks in advance

Octavio, what you are describing sounds like a different bug. I had no issues increasing acceleration via the mouse configuration GUI. The problem reported here has to do with the interpretation of the fraction defined by accelNum and accelDenom in xinput.

Hi, just to let you know, finally I resolve "slow mouse" problem, this solution applies in Kubuntu 10.04 LTS version 32 and 64 bits, also applies to ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04.

For my Dell computer: Dell Inspiron 15 (C15P32_225LCO), AMD Athlon II Dual-Core Mobile P340 (2.2 GHz), Mem 2GB DDR3, 250GB HD. video ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250. You just need to download from ATI web site the latest drivers. selecting the drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250 you will get a .sh file "ati-.......sh", to avoid problems you can reboot your computer and enter as ubuntu (failsafe) then enter as a root to the console, and run the .sh file. Reboot your computer and you will get the mouse working correctly and video working smoothly
