I was having virtually the same problem--I was copying video files to my local drive over Samba, and it crashed when trying to create thumbnails for the (local) files.

When downloading videos using bittorrent I keep getting these "totem crashed" dialogs when it tries to thumbnail incomplete files. Edgy/AMD64. Apps crashing on invalid data files is a bad deal - I'm always afraid there's a security issue.
