xfce screen blank ignores typing until blanked.

I have xfce set to blank the screen after two minutes.
If I don't use the mouse in that time but keep typing on the keyboard, the screen is blanked while I am typing.
It does take the next character typed as activity and then unblanks the screen. but looses the character while doing so.
