I had originally filed #371454 which appears to be a duplicate of this.

Pulling in the context of a comment from that ticket, it looks like this was a requested behavior, based on this ticket:

Aside from that, I'm going to add my voice to the chorus saying "please give me an option to make it work like it did pre 4.6".
