xfdesktop leaks memory when repeatedly reconnecting display

Bug Description

xfdesktop4 memory usage increases continuously while repeatedly reconnecting HDMI cable (RSS and VSZ memory usage as reported by both ps and top). This may not happen with a DisplayPort cable.

This issue has been reported to XFCE bug tracker: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14844
