slow right click menu

fresh install of Xubuntu 12.04 and when I right click on the desktop
the menu takes 1 second to show up.
If I deselect the option to show the "applications menu" however the menu opens up instantly.

Yes, I see exactly the same. In my case the delay is around four seconds on a modern system with a quad-core processor and 8Gb of memory.

On subsequent right clicks the menu pops up more quickly.

This bug has been known upstream for a while (https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7172) and also has been fixed for a while already (http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/commit/?id=803ea66061417317df2b2968a81a4cfdfd052e8d).

The fixed version is in Xfce4.10, so in Xubuntu 12.10 this will be fixed. Maybe we can cherry-pick the commit though (if we haven't done so yet :) ) and backport it for 12.04.
