Bug Description
I installed the xfce4 meta package and a few other "goodies" to compare Unity to xfce.
After rebooting and logging with a session manager of xfce4, I clicked terminal emulator, which launched Gnome Terminal 3.4.1.1
An emulator window opened with title bar, etc, but the I/O emulator window was black.
Typing in the window appeared to be doing _something_, so I checked to see if there were any settings within the terminal regarding color. Nothing.
Went to Applications -> Settings -> Appearance -> and selected the first style "Ambiance". The Gnome Terminal window immediately displayed the text that I had blind-typed earlier.
