Yes, I think I removed the patch by mistake, but after some thoughts it's better like that. It uses a vte feature that is ubuntu-specific (not upstream), and we made some ubuntu-specific patch as well in xfce4-terminal (which caused some crashes in the past that weren't present in the vanilla version).

Sorry, I don't think I'll reintroduce that, unless the ubuntu patch is included in vte upstream.

I moved myself to xfce from gnome that was too much laggy with few last updates and I'm really impressed. The only annoying thing is this bug. So by my opinion, no, it's not better like that. It makes work with longer code in vim much harder. Lionel, please, think about using the patch one more time.
Thanks

I would like to second Kruz. It was a better user experience before and after 6 weeks I still find myself scrolling the terminal in despair. Please overthink your plan of permanently removing the patch.

I just switch from Archlinux to Xubuntu for the sake of simlplicity... and this non-scrolling "feature" is really a step backward in usability... even more on a eee-netbook (small arrow, big touchpad...) ! Please, can you reconsider this ?

Thanx for your hard work,
best regards

I switched from Ubuntu 10.10 to Xubuntu 11.10. Found this issue and it annoys me. Is there a configuration option for it? This works in ubuntu (gnome)

Please reconsider. I am the author of the original patch and found out that it needed to be rewritten
for xfce4-terminal-0.4.8. The crashes (segfault when closing the preferences dialog) are gone.

Ubuntu uses a modified vte. And it is modified in a way that changes the default behaviour (bad).
So all applications that use vte need to be modified as well to support the vte modification.

The bug is still present in precise (of course, vte is unchanged) and I would really like to see it
fixed in a LTS release.
