Bug Description

I having this issue on my current Xubuntu 14.04 (with XFCE 4.12) install; after installing few themes and icon packs, xfce4-appearance-settings starts to crash on launch.

Themes installed: Adwaita, Albatross, bluebird, Greybird, HighContrast, Numix(via PPA & in use), Orion(via PPA), Raleigh

Icon packs installed: Elementary Xfce, Elementary Xfce dark, Elementary Xfce darker, Elementary Xfce darkest, Faba(via PPA), GNOME, High Contrast, Humanity, Humanity-Dark, Moka(via PPA & in use), Numix(via PPA), Numix Circle(via PPA), Numix Circle Light(via PPA), Numix Light(via PPA)

STEPS TO RECREATE:
The bug is possibly difficult to recreate.
However, if the tabs or different themes on the appearance setting windows are clicked rapidly soon after its launch; it has a higher chance of crashing (it's also unresponsive for a while if at all it manages works).
Try a few times if it didn't happen on the first try.
Make sure you are already using the Numix theme and Moka icons.

NOTE: Removing moka-icon-theme package seemingly fixes the crash, so the problem may be very well with the icon pack itself and not with xfce4-appearance-settings.

Hi, what version of xfce4-settings are you using in 14.04? By default, that should be an older version than the one shipped in 15.04. Since there were some changes that took place in between 14.04 and 15.04, it would be good to know – please just edit the bug-description and provide more info!

Are there any specific icon packs that cause the crash? Can you narrow it down to a certain one? (Try re/moving icons/themes one by one until the crashes disappear)

What I meant is please add the output of "xfce4-appearance-settings --version" to the bug description for 14.04 and 15.04. If you don't use the version shipped by default, also indicate where you got the version you're running from. Thanks!

It's true that when loading the themes and icons tabs the first time, it takes a bit, because the previews are re-generated each time. I have all of those themes installed here (incl. Moka and a few more) and can't really reproduce the crash unfortunately.

Are you sure that Moka alone makes it crash? If so, from where did you install it?

Yes, moka alone was causing this issue, I used this: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:moka/stable

I tried to reproduce following the procedure outlined in your video, however I don't get any crashes. I installed Moka from a different source though, I can try from the PPA as well.

Either way, it seems to be both rather rare and random, which makes it a pain to debug/fix for devs and only a slight nuisance for users.

Agreed, random and rare, but after a while it exaggerates. Not a big issue but defiantly an annoying nuisance.

I can reproduce the reported crash on Linux Mint 17.1 32-bit, which is based on Ubuntu 14.04.3, at will, simply by launching xfce4-appearance-settings.
I have installed xfce 4.12 from this PPA: ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12

$ xfce4-appearance-settings --version
xfce4-appearance-settings 4.12.0 (Xfce 4.12)

There is no moka-icon-theme here on Mint 17.1

$ xfce4-appearance-settings

marking this invalid for moka-icon-theme. From the reports above and the linked forum, this issue is caused by other iconsets - so it is not specific to moka-icon-theme.
