Button Label|Sessions and Startup
Button Label|Splash Screen

buttons otherwize work fine, just are mislabeled by containing the "Button Label|" string

info:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu.

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

(using xubuntu)

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

oh, duh, it might help if you know what i'm talking about :-D

the gui settings thing of xfce: start via terminal with xfce-setting-show, or go to Applications > Settings > Settings manager.

What language are you using? Probably en (UK) or something, I guess? AFAIK it's caused by the translators also translating the "Button label|" part...

I'll see if I can fix it, but I don't think you'll be seeing the result in Xubuntu unless another version of Xfce 4.4 will be released and packaged for Xubuntu (which I doubt). The next version of Xubuntu should include Xfce 4.6 which has a new settings manager (with new translations).

So, which language are you using?

What's your locale? ta or en?
Some strings are indeed missing in the Tamil translation for xfce4-session (marked as fuzzy in po/ta.po, that's why they aren't translated and the weird "Label|" stuff appears...)

My locale is en.

"Button Label|" is in items "Sessions and Startup" and "Splash Screen".

Confirmed, this is a Xubuntu specific issue though.
Xfce4-session is heavily patched for the logout dialog in xubuntu, and thus use translations coming from Rosetta (which are of course broken, as usual...).

This bug was fixed in the package xfce4-session - 4.4.3-0ubuntu3

---------------
xfce4-session (4.4.3-0ubuntu3) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Fix broken translations (LP: #313688):
    - debian/rules, debian/xubuntu-po/*: don't install these files, they contain
      broken strings
    - debian/patches/xubuntu-fix-logout-dialog-translations.patch: use this
minimal patch instead (taken from hardy-updates and slightly updated to
      apply cleanly).
