[Xubuntu vivid daily:installed] Fails to reboot when the restart butto is clicked

Was unable to preform a soft restart. When logged in, clicking the restart button returned me to the login screen. Was unable to restart or shutdown from the login screen.

Steps to reproduce the error:

1) Install Xubuntu vivid daily i386
2) login as the created user
3) click applications menu and click the power icon. Click the restart button

Expected results:
system should restart

Actual results:
system returned to the login screen. Both restart and shutdown options were unaccessible.
