Bug Description

20-04: I did a fresh Xubuntu 13.04 install (Everything worked fine, except that lightdm sometimes didn't start)
21-04: I decided to use compiz, because xfwm has tearing windows. Compiz preferences don't stick, I'm not sure if this is a compiz or an xfce issue.
23-04: My Xfce session suddenly started crashing randomly, even after removing compiz. I'm now using LXDE, because Xfce currenly is unusable. Xfce mostly crashes after opening about three random windows.

Did a dist-upgrade a few days ago, getting all these issues. Tried browsing ubuntuforums and here to no avail. tried removing xfce4-sessions, .config/, uhhhhh quite a few other things as well. Can't wait to get it fixed as XFCE is the only GUI that lets me use 3 monitors on my desktop in *nix land.

I finally gave up on it today and installed Kali-Linux. Although it uses an old version of XFCE I don't like.

Considering going to BT since its built on Ubuntu to see if the version of XFCE is better. If its not maybe I can get the Xubuntu version I'm wanting to use or build it from source. If not I'm probably going to downgrade to 12.04 or 12.10 if I can find a disk since I can't find the download anymore :-/ because a lot of the repos I use aren't 13.04 compatible yet.

And if I have to get Ubuntu going again ill try and build the BT tools on there

I had the really same issue, except that I could reproduce it by simply clicking the "Log Out..." button.
I don't know if it is related to, but after each login I had a warning from hddtemp. I did the (not so) suggested:

 chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp

and now everything seems to work fine. I can logout normally and I opened up to 20 windows without crashes.

Something else i was thinking about last night

Does anyone run compiz? it seemed to speed up the problem if Compiz was running

And See if you guys can reproduce the error by opening xfce4-terminal and the gnome one. Not xterm, but the other two.

There were times it seemed as though as soon as I opened a term in x as opposed to a ttty one it caused the bug as well

I am getting this problem without running compiz. I am, however, running the experimental fglrx driver from the repos.

I fresh installed xubuntu 13.04 a few weeks W/O this problem,
but I do not know why, I have this problem today after I installed wine-1.5 from ppa(maybe not related).
anyone know workaround for this bugs?
how do you fixed this?
I can not launch xfdesktop now, xfdesktop coredump everytime.
