Often, when I close the lid to sleep this laptop it suspends normally. When opening the lid, the desktop shows up and I cannot interact with it and the login screen never appears.
Sometimes I close it again to suspend and then reopening will offer the login screen, but usually I have to to to a virtual tty and shut it down/restart it.

I thought I would further note that this really started happening since the switch away from light-locker to xfce4-screensaver. New installs offer to fix settings between the screensaver and the power management in xfce4-settings- manager.
Usually following the wiki page referenced mostly fixes it. However, there are still some machines that do it relatively frequently.
