This bug happened shortly after I signed in to my Ubuntu distribution, with no apparent cause, since I still hadn't had time to do anything.

Xubuntu 19.10 is EOL. Marking this ticket as closed. If you are still able to reproduce this issue in a current supported release (focal, impish, jammy), please reopen or create a new ticket. Thanks!
