Bug Description

I am using extended desktop on Xfce 4 Desktop Environment version 4.4.1 (Xfce 4.4). My panels are vertical and the screen where the panels are is right of the other. When I maximize a window in the display where the panels are, the window goes partly under left panel.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xfce4-panel.

But we need more info in order to address this issue, so please help us with this.

You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
4. the version you're using (cat /etc/lsb-release )
5. the package version affected (sudo dpkg -l | grep xfce4)
Thanks!

Also please try to make clear the differences between this bug and #158172

The difference between this and #158172 is that in this bug window does maximize under existing panel, but in #158172 you can not move the window to the edge of a display even if there is no panel there.

Thanks, you are welcome.

This might be connected to the bug: On the other display, after maximizing a window, the window does not reach to the left end of display.

I have experience of the problems only when using xranrd 1.2 with intel driver in Gutsy.

I think one solution would be to place the panel to the left side of the left display, but I don't know how to move panels that way. On the other hand, panel in the middle of desktop is faster to reach. Maybe it would be good to have an option to have panel(s) on both displays.

I also am experiencing this problem, with a fresh install of Gutsy.

If a panel is on the left or top of the primary screen (Window 0) maximizing an app works as expected. If the panel is to the right or at the bottom of the screen, the app maximizes underneath it, as if whatever is calculating the maximized window position is ignoring the presence of a panel. Hopefully the screenshot will help explain.

The same bug appears on Window 1, but only when the panel is to the left.

Attached is a screenshot of what I am talking about, it is a composite of all eight possibilities. Portions labeled in red are not working as expected, where green labeled portions are working fine (in my opinion).

My technical knowledge on this subject is admittedly limited, but I am willing to help in any way I can. Simply let me know.

Thank you for your time,
Matthew W.

I'm also seeing this bug, with and without compiz enabled.
Could this be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/120818?
It's a different windowmanager, but the sympthoms are the same.
