Bug Description

I recently changed from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. I re-installed from scratch as I was moving from 32bit to 64bit.

My lenovo x201 tablet's touch screen and stylus did work fine with 32bit 14.04.

Now the touch screen is not even recognised.

It does not show up in System Settings > Wacom Tablet

Running:
xsetwacom --list devices

returns nothing.

sudo lshw | grep wacom

returns nothing.

xinput returns:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Integrated Camera id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ ThinkPad Extra Buttons id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]

...but no mention of the wacom touchscreen.

The following file is present on my system:

/lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules

it contains the following:

ACTION!="add|change", GOTO="wacom_end"

# Match all serial wacom tablets with a serial ID starting with WACf
# Notes: We assign NAME though we shouldn't, but currently the server requires it
# We assign the lot to subsystem pnp too because server reads NAME from
# the parent device. Once all that's fixed, as simple SUBSYSTEM="tty"
# will do and the ENV{NAME} can be removed.

I add some important info.

Every time a new kernel upgrade is performed (e.g. via software updates) touchscreen come alive at reboot.

Unfortunately it stops working after another simple reboot.
