Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release: 12.04
AMD-64
xcp-xapi 1.3.2-5
tinc 1.0.16-1 .
i was getting error messages like this in my syslog:
Jun 8 21:08:52 parents-voip kernel: [ 1773.768355] xapi[2821]: segfault at 0 ip 0000000000b8a532 sp 00007fff6564a3b0 error 4 in xapi[400000+7ba000]
when i tried to start xcp-xapi , and as expected , xe didn't work either .
i found this thread :
http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=283513&tstart=495
so i realized that tinc is causing the problem , with tinc stopped, i could start xcp-xapi.
i realize that this problem is not ubuntu specific, but i guess it's a good place to report ,
thank you.

the problem got fixed by starting tinc , after the xcp-xapi , so what i basically did was that , i've disabled tinc's startup script , and added it to rc.local , so i assume that the startup scipt must be changed from S20 , to something more that 23 , after xcp-xapi.

Hi,

Could you please confirm that this is /etc/init.d/tinc that we're talking about?

Would a:
Should-Start: xen-api

in the tinc init script fix the problem?

Cheers,

Thomas

i can confirm it of course , in the end , i ended up uninstalling tinc on
the dom0 and installed it on one of the dom U's.

Hi,

I'm sorry if it sounds a bit rude but: as the maintainer of xen-api in
Debian, I don't care about your particular installation or how you went
around the problem. I care about fixing the package, and I don't know
what even tinc is for (I only used OpenVPN in the past).

You are the reporter, so you must care about the bug to be fixed, right?
So could you *please* try to add:

Should-Start: xen-api

to the init.d script and let me know if it works?

If you don't do it and help fixing the bug which your reported, then
this is a really useless loss of time.

Cheers,

Thomas

Hello,

I can confirm that this is still a problem (two years later). It's more of a minor annoyance than anything. I've added Should-Start: xcp-xapi but cannot confirm that it resolves the problem outright until I am able to have downtime.

The segfaults still occur whenever OpenVPN starts before xcp-xapi. I would hope that the Should-Start fix isn't the answer to fixing a segfault -- the cause is still there. I would imagine it has to do with the existence of tap/tun interface.

Let me know how I can help solve this!

Thanks,

JT
