Bug Description

Network traffic won't go through on Intel Gigabit Nics (igb module) on dom0.
The nics are coming up correctly and are usable but no traffic is going through, so DHCP won't work as well.
Tried it with network-bridge and without.

We tried all ubunu-xen-server kernels, but doesn't seem to make any difference.

If i use the onboard bnx2 nics on our PowerEdge servers everything works fine, so it can't be the xen-configuration.

The nics are:
2x Intel PRO 1000VT Quad Port Gigabit Network Card, PCI-E

lspci:
0c:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
0c:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
0d:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
0d:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
11:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
11:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
12:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
12:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)

We are going to build a xen-cluster with ubuntu and need all of these network cards. These issue puts all out efforts on jeopardy atm. So quick help is appreciated.

Sorry, i forgot to mention:
The intel nics are working fine with the ubuntu stock-kernel not using xen.

Seems to work with the new igb driver module compiled from source.

Would be nice if the new igb-driver could be included in the modules backports package for xen.

I can confirm this problem.
I'm running kernel 2.6.24-19-xen on Ubuntu 8.04, and have got two Intel 82575EB nic's, which just don't work.
According to ifconfig, ip link show, brctl show and so on, everything seems to be fine. But there is just no traffic going through the interfaces.
With the standard (no-xen) kernel, everything works fine.

I've got four brand new servers, which should become xen hosts, and can't use them right now. A quick fix would be really, really appreciated.

You need to get the newest igb drivers from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=42302&package_id=237808
You need, at least, version 1.2.44.3.

Version 1.2.24 (which is linked as the newest version on the Intel homepage *sigh* http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=13663)
still has a bug, because of which the nic's will only work after "ethtool -K <if> tx off".
See: http://<email address hidden>/msg00101.html

Now, this version "only" has to make it into the Ubuntu packages ...
