System freezes with xen kernel after loading DRM

I installed the ubuntu-server xen package (since the server one failed with the dependency on xenman as far as I can remember) on my relatively new/fresh install of 8.04 but I'm unable to boot with the xen kernel. I get only a blank screen after the initial boot messages. Some research shows that system hangs right after loading the drm kernel module.
Everything is pretty much configured by default, especially the X server.
I'm on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR180E laptop with an "Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller".

Hi again,

I've been trying to work out the problem that I have with Xen (without any success :-() and started to think that it may *not* be related to the *drm* module. If I boot the system with gdm disabled everything works OK until I try starting the X server (with startx). Issuing startx freezes the system exactly like before. I'm starting to think that the problem is related to the kernel modules not working properly with the xen kernel, initrd etc.

I've the same problem with a Toshiba A105 that have the same video card. Without X, works ok.

I've the same problem with a Dell Optiplex 755 ...
have you find a workaround or a solution ?

Same here on Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S7110 with its Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller
While theres no specific driver configured in xorg.conf logfiles say that 'intel' is used.

This bug could already be fixed in intrepid. As the kernel is still linux-image-2.6.24-19-xen (there is not yet a newer kernel in intrepid) the xorg update might fixed the bug...

I just did an dist-upgrade to intrepid and Xen + X now works!

One thing to watch out for is, at least for me, the upgrade uninstalled bridge-utils.

Also: Interpid looks kinda neat :)

All the colors are different. If you are having this bug on a non-production system, upgrade to a interpid release, it is quite an experience. Just when I thought Ubuntu had stopped impressing me, they go and make things even better :)
