Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:

Running on system with nvidia Geforce 8600 GT card with dual monitors.

sudo apt-get install xemacs
xemacs&
top

Open a file. Maximize xemacs window. Go to top and bottom of file. System becomes extremely sluggish. top shows compiz, Xorg, and xemacs monopolizing cpu. After restoring xemacs to non-maximized, the system quiesces.

Note that there are errors reported when X starts (Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors: none of the selected modes were dcompatible with the possible modes for CRTC 351...but no other application that I have found so far (including emacs) causes this behavior.

Update: re-installed ubuntu 11.10 without proprietary nvidia drivers so I no longer have the Xwindows errors. Repeated above test. Still seeing this behavior.

Update: Turning Options -> Display -> Buffers Tab Visible button off works around the problem.
