Bug Description

Binary package hint: xdg-utils

When run as root user (via sudo) xdg-desktop-menu install is supposed to install the menu for all users, but it installs the menu only for user root. Other users do not see the menu. Adding the option "--mode system" makes no difference. There are no error messages and the returned status ($?) is 0. This happens with Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 beta.

No they did not at the time, but this problem seems to be gone now.

At my case menus appear also after logout & login back.
Found a workaround: after 'xdg-desktop-menu' action, invoke 'killall gnome-panel', menu gets refreshed.
Interesting that this explicit refresh is required on amd64 arch only.
