newly added menus not visible

Binary package hint: xdg-utils

1. On Ubuntu 10.04 beta 2 upgraded as of 2010-04-15 09:55
2. xdg-utils: Installed: 1.0.2-6.1ubuntu3
3. I run:
xdg-desktop-menu install --mode system smarttech-science.directory smarttech-test.desktop
4. On 8.04/32, 9.04/64 and 9.10/32 the mew submenu, and the menu entry in it, appear under Applications and selecting it starts Xlogo
5. On 10.04 it does not appear
6. On 10.04 beta 1 the behavior was different: the new items appeared on the menu but disappeared after logout/login
I attach the two files I use (in a tarfile).
If you think this will go away just by upgrading and/or waiting for the release, I would appreciate a word about it.
