Bug Description

Binary package hint: xchat

xchat doesn't wait for authentication to succeed before autojoining channels, so I cannot autojoin any of the invite-only channels I'm part of.

Problem not seen in Lucid, however it may interest you that this issue is also present on Lucid booting off a newer 2.6.35 kernel.

This is now affecting joining #ubuntu. I keep getting floodbot nonsense and then it's ok to join.

I have my favourites set to join #ubuntu,#ubuntu-beginners,#ubuntuforums-mods but it only lets me join #ubuntu-beginners now. I have to manually join the others.

Compiling fresh from their source (from svn) seems to respect irc_join_delay variable - UNLESS the server sends a JOIN command (from my understanding of the code).

Does /set irc_join_delay 5 fix the problem? You might need to change 5 to 15 or 25 or whatever seconds - it will wait that much time before autojoining.

On freenode this can be resolved by moving your NickServ password to the "Server Password" field

The issue is that XChat doesn't support SASL which identifies you before you are visible to normal users on the network. There is script at https://freenode.net/sasl/sasl-xchat.shtml , but I would suggest moving to HexChat as you can see from that first link.
