Bug Description

Binary package hint: xchat-common

this is part of a conversation I saw in #xchat on freenode but I have the same issue:
[17:35:38] <Some_Person> How do I disable logging?
[17:36:38] <MidnightRider> settings/preferences/chat/logging unset the appropriate option
[17:36:52] <Some_Person> I disabled both options
[17:36:59] <Some_Person> but it still logs everything
[17:37:38] <MidnightRider> did you restart xchat?
[17:37:50] <Some_Person> no
[17:37:55] <Some_Person> ill try that
[17:37:57] * Some_Person has quit (Client Quit)
[17:38:37] * Some_Person has joined #Xchat
[17:38:42] <Some_Person> It's still logging
[17:39:16] <MidnightRider> what do you mean by logging?
[17:39:29] <Some_Person> When I open channel, it shows old log
[17:39:40] <Some_Person> \and it logs new cconversations
[17:40:19] <Some_Person> i have both checkmarks unchecked
[17:40:37] <MidnightRider> wish I could find the setting to make it show the old log. but if you delete the files in the logging directory, that shouldn't happen
[17:41:08] <Some_Person> i did that
[17:41:15] <Some_Person> it just makes new logs as i use xchat
[17:42:13] <Some_Person> and actually, the logs are in the "scrollback" dir
[17:42:33] <MidnightRider> something is wrong with your xchat then. turning off those options should also turn off logging.
[17:43:03] <Some_Person> I have a lot of custom settings, so I dont want to start all prefs from scratch
[17:44:00] <Some_Person> this only started happening today
[17:44:21] <Some_Person> but i think Ubuntu updated XChat yesterday
[17:44:22] <MidnightRider> what changed between yesterday and today?
[17:44:30] <MidnightRider> ah, then there's the problem.
[17:44:55] <Some_Person> i could be wrong though, let me check real fast
[17:54:39] <Some_Person> XChat was updated 2 weeks ago last
[17:54:49] <Some_Person> I haven't used it since
[17:54:56] <Some_Person> Now, how do I fix it?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

has this fix been added to the xchat package in repos or do I need to add
this code to xchat? if so where do I add the code?

It has been added as a patch to the package in gutsy (i.e., you only have to update your system).
