Bug Description

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When starting xchat-gnome, if the user has a nickserv password saved, the program autojoins channels before identifying the username.

Example:

-NickServ- This nickname is registered. Please choose a different nickname, or identify via /msg NickServ identify <password>.
 Found your IP: [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
 Unknown MODE flag
#python :Cannot join channel (+r) - you need to be identified with services
-NickServ- You are now identified for pionar.

It should message nickserv before trying to join channels.

We dont install xchat-gnome by default nor do I see it listed in the Software Center "Featured Apps"..
Am I missing something here, any reason this was included as a papercut?

It might be that I've marked the wrong application here, but whatever it is that signs the user into IRC in Empathy is where the problem lies.

Nah, Greg Bair has filed this bug for xchat-gnome, the papercuts task has been later recently. Closing task

If the same is also noticeable with empathy, we need to file a separate bug in telepathy-idle.
