Bug Description

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

gnome-xchat crashes on start up in Intrepid

The program 'xchat-gnome' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadImplementation (server does not implement operation)'.
  (Details: serial 521 error_code 17 request_code 145 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

It works if I delete all my gconf values and then restart

I've had the same problem. I didn't manage to debug the crash (quite complicated because it's a async x issue and I couldn't get enough debug symbols (why dont -dbgsym packages state dependencies?)

However, I did manage to track it down to the gconf key xchat/main_window/background_type. When this is set to 2 (transparency), xchat-gnome fails to start.
