Bug Description

Binary package hint: xarchiver

Here's the test case. Let's say I wanna archive .pidgin . this is a folder which has 4.5 k in 5 folders :-
shirish@Mugglewille:~/.purple$ ls -la
total 136
drwx------ 5 shirish shirish 4096 2007-09-09 19:22 .
drwx------ 163 shirish shirish 24576 2007-09-09 19:35 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 shirish shirish 7966 2007-09-09 16:51 accels
-rw------- 1 shirish shirish 11627 2007-09-09 16:44 accounts.xml
-rw------- 1 shirish shirish 46675 2007-09-09 16:51 blist.xml
drwx------ 2 shirish shirish 4096 2007-09-05 23:09 icons
drwx------ 4 shirish shirish 4096 2007-06-13 19:04 logs
-rw------- 1 shirish shirish 20337 2007-09-09 19:22 prefs.xml
-rwx--x--x 1 shirish shirish 108 2007-09-02 16:32 schedules.xml
drwx------ 2 shirish shirish 4096 2007-06-09 03:08 smileys
-rw------- 1 shirish shirish 898 2007-09-09 16:44 status.xml

Now if I want to archive the the whole .purple to let's say .purple.tar.gz I can't seem to do that. In the dialog box we have All files or only archives & nothing about how one can do it. Attaching a screenshot of the same. I'm sure its there in the roadmap somewhere.

can you do this with file-roller and see if it works? We're tentatively switching to it for gutsy
thanks

nope, it doesn't work in file-roller also, even there the same behaviour is, which means either it has something to do with GTK ?(perhaps, no idea) or that has not been done in file-roller also :(

I am not sure whether that's a bug or not: you can archive the entire folder recursively by going to the parent folder and select the .purple/ folder.

Lionel apologies, first of all apologies didn't know there was a second step to it, first creating of the archive & then the addition of files and/or directories to the same. hmm.. so this bug is invalid, actually there should be some way of integrating this functionality in a single step (rather than 2 steps it uses now). Maybe somebody can come up with a better way of doing that. Marking this bug invalid, apologies everybody.
