Bug Description

My kid was using the laptop, connected to internet in his user session.

I switched to my user (but his session was still active), and NetworkManager couldn't connect to internet.

Error from syslog:

Jun 23 19:30:15 tanquita NetworkManager[854]: <info> [1592951415.1979] audit: op="connection-activate" uuid="a52379fa-0a44-4013-93b6-b04e63515fb9" name="Voyager" pid=34278 uid=1000 result="fail" reason="Private connection already active on the device: uid 1000 has no permission to perform this operation"

(uid 1000 is myself)

Thank you for your bug report. Is your user an admin one (what's the output of the 'groups' command)?

Which type of connection did you try to activate and how? could you try if you get the same issue under GNOME?

Changed in network-manager (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
importance: Undecided → Low

Hello Sebastien,

I'm admin, yes. `groups` gives me: facundo adm cdrom sudo dip plugdev lpadmin lxd sambashare

I did not try to activate any specific connection: it's just NM trying to connect to one of its saved WiFis when starting the session.

I don't have gnome to try it.

Data point: after several attempts in error, it ended up connecting to WiFi... maybe the other connection in the other session did some kind of timeout?

Could you add the 'journalctl' log from the session where you had the issue/retry/worked?

it seems to be a wpasupplicant / driver issue, from the log
