This refers to an Ubuntu Alpha 4+ with all updates.

Apart from this issue my question would be whether this really is free software as long as it relies on Java which - during installation - asks for confirmation of its own license. Just a question.

PS Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 with all updates, that's what I meant.

Worldwind needs Sun's JVM. It used to be sun-java6-jre but since version 0.5.0-3, it is working with the free JVM (OpenJDK).

However, Worldwind is released under the "NASA Open Source Agreement v1.3" which is not considered as free

Otherwise, please, don't submit one bug report for different issues (one per issue).

I have a similar problem in the released Lucid. There are no error messages but the icon is not anywhere in the sub-menus of the Applications menu. I tried searching for "worldwind" and "ww2d" in my home folder and the file system - no files were found, yet Ubuntu Software Centre has marked the application as being installed.

I was expecting it to be an application that would work in Ubuntu because it was listed in the Ubuntu Software Centre - feel free to let me know if I'm being naive.

I'd be interested to know where Ubuntu Software Centre saves files.

Please let me know if I should have posted this as a separate bug or as a question in a forum. I'm fairly sure I'm right in raising under Ubuntu rather than World Wind because the Ubuntu Software Centre or the Applications menu is not behaving normally.
