Bug Description

I run xubuntu 14.04. After an upgrade about a month ago I guess the notification area stopped showing icons. I use dropbox, cryptkeeper, etc. None of their icons appears to show in the notification area. I resetted notificaion area settings, removed it from the panel and added again. Stll the same issue.

I choose reporting xfce4-panel package, not workrave. How to change it please?

It also happens to me after fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04.
Network Manager icon has disappeared from Notification area, in plugin properties, I can see that there is Network Management application, which can't find its icon. (It is a grey screen icon, not found icon)
However, "variable applications" such as Guake, Aqualung show thei icons.
Emergency workaround is to install the xfce4-indicator-plugin aside. The combination of the two plugins gives all required information.

I have the same problem!

A fresh install of Xubuntu. After two boots, icons disappeared.

Currently, I can see the bluetooth and owncloud icon, but Network Manager and Battery is missing (although I can tell that Network Manager is running).

Same behaviour on a Toshiba Satellite Pro upgraded from 13.10.
Network Manager applet disappeared from notification area in 14.04. It is found in indicator applet.
However applications like Guake, Aqualung, VLC appear in notification area.

same issue for me after upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04 : all icons have gone from the notification area (except a new one named "iBus")

Found that disapeared from "Notification area" application icons apper at "Indicator Plugin". There Network Manager, VLC, transmission, Skype etc. But "Indicator Plugin" also contains stupid non-hiding clock and empty "keyboard" area. Sad.
