Now that Natty has been released, we would need to go through the SRU process to get an upgrade into Natty. Is it worth it?

I'm not sure. I don't use winpdb and it doesn't have many rdepends:

% apt-cache rdepends winpdb
winpdb
Reverse Depends:
  spe
  quickly-ubuntu-template

I did notice that Debian sid still has winpdb 1.4.6 so it might be more fruitful to get the update into Debian so that it can be automatically sync'd into Oneiric. Bernd Zeimetz <email address hidden> is the Debian maintainer. I've subscribed him to this bug report and would like to get his input.

Unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume we don't need an SRU for Natty. Let me know if help is needed requesting an update for Debian.

Thanks for the ping. Unfortunately the download URL changed and upstream didn't
notify me (as he usually does), so I've missed 1.4.8. I'll upload it in a few
minutes.

Cheers,

Bernd

Marking 'Fix Released'. Oneiric now has 1.4.8-1.

I'm a bit surprised that this is considered fixed. Winpdb is completely broken in Natty unless you run it with python2.6.

It's fixed in Oneiric. Fixed in the development release is the Ubuntu standard for 'Fix Released'.

I think the options for Natty would be to either build 1.4.8 in a PPA or request a backport. In fact, 1.4.8 is available in my PPA:

@Scott: OK. I guess I should get more familiar with Ubuntu policies and terminology, sorry.

@Barry: Thanks, the PPA solution works for me.

This is sooo lame

I installed this package with Synaptic on 11.04, then spent some time looking for broken pipe between program I use to evoke winpdb, and the problem was that Ubuntu ships faulty package

Why don't you remove it from 11.04 repositories?

Packages can't be removed. They can be fixed, but given that a fixed version is published in a new release, it probably isn't worth the effort.
