Bug Description

The Wine package wasn't updated since trusty and is still in version 1.6 which was released almost 3 years ago. The same old version is still included in the current development Xenial release. Why?

you need to understand that 'wine' is a third project; not a ubuntu/debian one.

Why is it in the Ubuntu repository then, if the package is not maintained anymore?

At least 4 games that I played only work in wine 1.7 or higher in addition many programs work better in wine 1.8, come on 2 years of development between 1.6 and 1.8 this is undeniable
