Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

I get this error when trying to run Dreamweaver under wine.

env WINEPREFIX="/home/justin/.wine-dw8" wine "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Dreamweaver.exe"
err:module:attach_process_dlls "odbc32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\Macromedia\\Dreamweaver 8\\Dreamweaver.exe" failed, status c0000005

This works fine with other distributions of linux (debian, opensuse, etc) with same version up wine. I have ruled out wine it is something in kubuntu causing it.

Don't do this, cd to the directory first.

Hello,

downloaded Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 (demo).. works fine here.

wine-0.9.60-630-gb93eb2c
clean wineprefix

"odbc32.dll" is not needed for Dreamweaver.
Looks like you have installed other software which might have messed up your wineprefix (~/.wine).
Try reinstalling/running on clean wineprefix.

Regards

Try:
$ mv ~/.wine ~/.wine.bak
$ wine dreamweaver_setup.exe

and see if that works?

For some reason you're still running with an old wine prefix.

You've beed said how to do it in the Comment #8. To remove installed

There is some problem with ODBC components.
I put 2 files:
odbc32.dll in system folder and
odbcint.dll in system32 folder
I select them in winecfg/libraries
And it start to work.
Thanks to all.

That's not a fix; that's a workaround.
Your results, if we can duplicate them, indicate a bug in wine's
ODBC implementation.

I was just saying "don't mark it fixed", that's all.

But now that you mention it, I think we need a
component for odbc, so I've added one and moved this bug there.

If it used to work, then please run a regression test and figure out what broke the app.

That would be a different bug, but it's already fixed ;-).

Wait for 1.1.13, or use git.

Could you please confirm whether this is still an issue in the latest version of Ubuntu or with a recent version of wine (preferably 1.2) from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa ?
Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. My apologies as I should not have marked this Invalid. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
