Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

Wine Package 1.0.1-0ubuntu8
Spotify 0.3.21 rev 56306
Ubuntu Karmic 9.10

Starting Spotify via the menu link created by the installed program
env WINEPREFIX="/home/steve/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Spotify\spotify.exe"

Attempting to play any song in Wine, sound playback is distorted. It's jerky and plays faster than it should. There seems to be a small sample of sound, then it skips a fraction, then another small fraction of sound.
If I open "Sound Preferences" and switch it to the Applications tab, there is an entry
"ALSA plug-in [wine-preloader]" This entry flickers as if it it is being loaded and unloaded repeatedly.

This used to work fine in ubuntu 9.4.
I have tried this under the Wine v1.2 package and I get the same behaviour.

I went to "Wine Configuration", Audio tab. Unticked all sound drivers, leaving only EsounD Driver ticked.
I can confirm that sound playback is now correct - Thanks for the tip edalb!

This setting conflicts with the advice on the Spotify webpage http://www.spotify.com/en/help/faq/wine. I have emailed them about this in case they want to update their webpage.

I'm happy - I have a successful work-around.

Ubuntu 9.10 + Wine 1.0.1 + Spotify 58364, the same solution, changing ASLA to EsounD on winecfg.
Thanks

Switching to esd worked for me on 9.10 32bit Intel G45 Core2 Duo up to date today!

Thanks for the tip and I hope Alsa is fixed soon!
