After adding wine ppa, sudo apt-get wine1.7 fails due to due to difference in library versions of liblcms in its i386 package and amd64 package.

I can't reproduce this. I have, however, encountered a different problem whereby if you already have wine1.6 installed migrating to wine1.7 produces spurious apt resolver issues unless you do something like:
sudo apt-get install wine1.7 wine1.7-amd64 wine1.7-i386
